Top rated lightweight Justin Gaethje enters free agency
Top rated lightweight Justin Gaethje is officially in the free agency market.
Sources told FOX Sports on Monday that Gaethje is now a free agent following the conclusion of his contract with World Series of Fighting where he's been a five time defending champion. Calls to Gaethje's management team were not immediately returned.
Last November, MMAFighting first reported that Gaethje had planned on testing the free agency market once his contract was up and it appears that timeline has now expired to allow him to field offers from potential suitors.
Gaethje (17-0) is considered one of the top prospects in the 155 pound division. The former All-American wrestler is not only undefeated in his professional career, but Gaethje has also finished 15 of his 17 fights.
There's no word yet on which promotions will pursue Gaethje, including his current employers who will undoubtedly attempt to re-sign him, but the UFC could be one potential landing spot for the highly touted lightweight. The UFC's 155-pound division is arguably the deepest in the entire sport and Gaethje would be a valuable addition to the roster.
