Titans WR Britt arrested on DWI charge

Training camp begins for the Tennessee Titans one week from Saturday. When it does — whether Kenny Britt is on the field or not — his status is sure to rank among the dominant topics of the day after the wide receiver's latest arrest Friday morning.

Officials at Fort Campbell, Ky., said Britt was charged with driving under the influence as he attempted to enter the Army base about an hour's drive northwest of Nashville. Britt was arrested at about 3:30 a.m. and later released, according to a statement from the base's public affairs office.

This is Britt's eighth run-in with police in his three-plus-year NFL career.

Britt is coming off surgery for torn anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his right knee last season. He underwent an additional procedure on that knee in May and also recently underwent another on his left knee more recently. So whether Britt is physically ready for the start of camp is one lingering question.

Another, now, is whether disciplinary issues also might prevent him from starting the season on time. Britt was lucky to elude disciplinary action last year, as he was arrested twice during the lockout, but NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell took a pass on that one because the league was shut down.

This time, Britt might not be so lucky.

The Titans released a statement regarding the arrest: "We are aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering more facts."

When the Titans selected wide receiver Kendall Wright out of Baylor in the first round in April, some were surprised. They seemed to have pressing needs on the offensive line and with their pass rush.

Now the pick appears to be prescient. If general manager Ruston Webster and coach Mike Munchak decide they have had enough of Britt's antics and Wright shows promise, they might have the option of parting ways with Britt, who has produced on the field but has been a headache off of it.
