Tire Pros Team of the Week: Desert Edge
The Desert Edge Scorpions are the Tire Pros High School Team of the Week for the weekend of Oct. 11-13 after the Scorpions shut out previously unbeaten Liberty 26-0 on Friday night in a battle of Division III powers.
Kyle Woolard ran for 192 yards and two touchdowns and had a key interception for the Scorpions (8-0). The Scorpions also scored on a touchdown pass from Sawyer Lung to Ismael Murphy-Richardson.
Liberty (7-1) came into the game averaging 57 points per contest but was unable to do much against the Scorpions. Liberty's best scoring chances resulted in two missed field goals, and it also turned the ball over twice on interceptions.
Desert Edge moved up to fourth in the Varsity Xtra Division III rankings, while Liberty fell from fourth to eighth.
Other teams receiving consideration were Cesar Chavez for a 52-0 victory over Fairfax, Mesa Mountain View for its victory over Highland, Sunrise Mountain, Cibola and Tempe High.
