At this point in the college basketball season you never want to give the NCAA tournament selection committee a reason not to select your program.

Take for instance Virginia Tech. It appeared that perhaps the Hokies had burst through the NCAA bubble with a signature win over then top ranked Duke 64-60, which of course looks great on the resume toward the end of the season.

But, losing to Boston College three nights later, 76-61 in the regular season finale at Cassell Coliseum gives the selection committee another reason to not invite Virginia Tech to the NCAA Tournament.

It was the most lopsided home loss this season for the Hokies and left the team embarrassed.

"We just didn't come to play, and I just think it's embarrassing to happen like that," Virginia Tech guard Erick Green told the Newport News Daily Press.

Seth Greenberg added, "I challenged them at the end of shoot around. I challenged them before the game. I don't know if their emotional tank is on empty. But that's a sorry excuse. That's a sorry, sorry, sorry excuse."
