Tim Harris leaves Booker T. Washington to re-join 'Canes football staff
University of Miami head coach Al Golden and the football program seemed to make amends with an addition to their staff Monday morning.
Tim "Ice" Harris, head coach of Miami Booker T. Washington, has resigned from his post and joins UM as assistant director of football operations.
Harris, who coached high school teams for 24 years, will be the primary liaison with high school coaches and will also assist in coordinating community service events for current student-athletes.
With less than a week before National Signing Day 2013, the Hurricanes pulled a scholarship from All-American offensive lineman Denver Kirkland. At the time, Harris called it unfair.
This marks his second stint as a member of Miami's staff. He spent three seasons from 2008-10 as the assistant to the head coach, coordinating community relations projects and assisting in other day-to-day operations of the football program.
Both of his sons went to UM: Brandon was an All-ACC defensive back for the Hurricanes from 2007-11 and plays for the NFL's Houston Texans. Tim Jr. was an All-American and ACC champion for Miami's men's track and field team.
While at Booker T. Washington (2003-07, 2011-13), Tim Sr. accumulated a 99-10 record in eight seasons. He was named Florida Dairy Farm Florida Coach of the Year in 2012 and 2013 as the Tornadoes captured to back-to-back Class 4A state championships. Booker T. also won in 2007.
The Tornadoes finished atop the final MaxPreps rankings this past season, earning the honor of national champion.
Two defensive ends from that team, Chad Thomas and Demetrius Jackson, signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Hurricanes.
