Tigers invite 17 to spring training
The Tigers have invited 17 players to major league spring training camp.
Of the 17 non-roster invitees, there are seven pitchers, four catchers, four infielders and two outfielders.
The right-handed pitchers are Alberto Cabrera, Rafael Dolis, Joel Hanrahan, Tim Melville and Luke Putkonen.
Putkonen pitched in just two games for the Tigers last season before going on the disabled list with right elbow inflammation.
Hanrahan, a former All-Star, missed all of last season as he recovered from Tommy John surgery.
The left-handers are Omar Duran and Joe Mantiply.
Mantiply was 6-3 with a 2.40 ERA at Single-A West Michigan before earning a promotion to Double-A Erie last year. Mantiply then was invited to the Arizona Fall League, where he was 0-1 with a 2.57 ERA in 11 games with the Glendale Desert Dogs.
The catchers are Miguel Gonzalez, Austin Green, Grayson Greiner and Manny Pina.
Greiner, 22, was the Tigers' third-round pick in the 2014 draft. He batted .322 with two home runs and 16 RBI in 26 games with the Single-A West Michigan Whitecaps last season.
The infielders are Jordan Lennerton, Jefry Marte, Aaron Westlake and Josh Wilson.
The outfielders are Xavier Avery and Jason Krizan.
The first pitchers and catchers workout will be Feb. 20 and the first full-squad workout will be Feb. 24.
