Three takeaways from the Blue Jackets 5-2 loss to the Islanders
One: They needed a strong game after the loss in Toronto. They spent the entire thirty-one seconds that it took the Islanders to score in their own zone. For the second consecutive night, they were unable to clear the zone or keep pace with a faster team. Has playing "playoff hockey" already caught up with them?
Two: Bobrovsky was giving his teammates a chance to get back in the game. Once again, they let him down. At times many of them looked like their skates were dull as the Islanders flew right by them. They were chasing the play and chasing the game.
Three: The train came off the rails in the third period as they lost their discipline and took three penalties in the last three minutes of the game. By this time, they already trailed the Isles 5-2, so maybe it's a moot point. They have to play better, more consistent hockey if they have any hope of climbing back into the race.
