Three takeaways from the Blue Jackets 4-3 SO win over Carolina
One: They didn't have the pace that Carolina did in the first frame. Some lackadaisical passing crept in, as they were unable to find the tape of their teammates. The 'Canes took advantage of this and of turnovers by the Blue Jackets. They can't be happy with hanging their goalie out to dry, either.
Two: Sergei Bobrovsky kept them in this game with some outstanding saves. Carolina had a much better transition game through the neutral zone than did Columbus, and Carolina skated with pace for another 20 minutes. On the other hand, this was a better period from the Blue Jackets than the first.
Three: The Blue Jackets tightened up considerably in the final stanza in front of Bobrovsky. They also started pressuring the Hurricanes before evening the score and sending the game to overtime. There were some good chances in the extra frame, but neither team could find the back of the net. Johansen, 4 for 7 in shootouts after tonight, made a slick forehand to backhand move and beat Cam Ward for the game-winning goal.
