One: They came out for the first few minutes and played with purpose. After that, they seemed to slow a touch and got lackadaisical with their passing. The league-worst Sabres took advantage and dropped two goals on them. The Blue Jackets were too loosey-goosey with their play in the first frame.

Two: Despite the Blue Jackets getting two goals back in the second stanza (Calvert, Connauton), they lacked cohesion to their play. Their forecheck was M.I.A. for most of the game, with the Sbares dropping another two goals on them in the second.

Three: Third-string goalie Anton Forsberg was fighting the puck early before settling down in the second half of the game. But by then, the damage had been done. Yes, the Blue Jackets put 47 shots on goal, but they ran into a hot goalie in the Sabres Michal Neuvirth and really didn't have much "puck luck" to speak of.
