The Soundtrack to UFC 185: Pettis vs. dos Anjos - the walkout songs
UFC 185 was not only one of the most historic nights in the history of the sport, but the show also featured a huge array of walkout songs from the fighters performing on Saturday night in Dallas.
There was a real international flavor to the show thanks to new UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos using an artist from his native Brazil while new women's strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk chose a track from her home country of Poland as she strutted to the Octagon before taking out Carla Esparza in the second round.
For dos Anjos' choice in walkout songs, he went with the track "O Grito De Um Guerreiro" by MC Sapao and while I couldn't even begin to tell you what the lyrics are about, it certainly sounds like a song you could dance to -- or even win a UFC title!
The same could be said for Jedrzejczyk with her choice in songs as she chose the track "Przejmjj Ster W Swoje Dtonie" by Rena. Again, no clue what's being said but it's catchy!
While she wasn't able to retain her title, Carla Esparza still gets the award for the best walkout song of the night with Metallica's "Harvester of Sorrow". Actually, chances are as long as this is Esparza's music of choice, she'll probably keep winning this highly unofficial award because who doesn't love 'And Justice for All'?
In one of the bigger surprises in the walkout song category, former welterweight champion Johny Hendricks switched things up for his track as he went with the song "My Texas" by Josh Abbott Band. It went away from his normal song "$50 and a Flask of Crown" by Bleu Edmondson, but considering he was in his home state, the track he went with made perfect sense.
Matt Brown walked to the Octagon to "Hail to the King" by Avenged Sevenfold, but the song he was supposed to use was a track made specially for him by Hatebreed singer Jamey Jasta titled 'The Immortal' so that's what we'll include here.
One special note on the undercard goes to Beneil Dariush who defies conventional thinking and goes with 'Rock with You' by Michael Jackson when he walks to the cage. He doesn't need some adrenaline thumping bass or mind altering guitar solo to get him pumped up. Moon walking gets the job done for him!
