When hearing the Mavs are on the verge of acquiring a player, as they are set to do with Corey Brewer (for three years at just over seven-million dollars, per Marc Stein) once he clears waivers Thursday afternoon, the first question to invade the minds of most is: How does he fit? Where do the minutes come from?
Assuming the deal is completed as expected, here are a few assumptions we may be able to embrace.
To begin, while we love this signing for the Mavs, a deal that forfeits nothing while gaining a 24-year-old (turning 25 this Saturday, March 5) defensive specialist with room to grow; there may be reason to temper some of our expectations. With only 22 games left in the season, time is short for a player to learn, understand and succeed in his role within the constructs of a team thriving prior to their arrival.
