A year ago, the halftime show of the Detroit Lions’
Thanksgiving Day game turned into somewhat of a controversy because many fans
didn’t like the Canadian rock band Nickelback.
This time there should be no such controversy as the Lions announced Friday
that Michigan native son Kid Rock will take the stage at the half of their Nov.
22 game against the Houston Texans.
Kid Rock will perform his new song, “Detroit, Michigan,” which honors Detroit
music legends Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Bob Seger and Eminem, along with
Detroit icons such as Henry Ford and Rose Parks.
The song is featured on Kid Rock’s new album, “Rebel Soul,” which is expected
to be released Nov. 19.
Now, the big question becomes: Can the Lions finally win on Thanksgiving?
They’ve lost eight straight, including last year to Green Bay.
The Texans (7-1) will be a difficult challenge because they’re a legitimate
Super Bowl contender.
Detroit is 33-37-2 all-time in the annual Turkey Day classic, including 1-9 at
Ford Field.
