AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Texas freshman Asa Garcia won the women's triple jump Friday at the Texas Relays with a leap of 47 feet, 7¼ inches on day where events were delayed several times because of rain and lightning.

Clemson senior Tevin Hester was fastest in the men's 100 meters preliminaries with a wind-aided 10.22 seconds, edging Senoj-Jay Givans of Texas, who ran 10.26 heading into Saturday's final. The two-time defending champion and meet record-holder, Trayvon Bromell, did not enter the meet after turning pro in late 2015.

Texas senior Morolake Akinosun set the pace in the women's 100 at 11.25 seconds in the preliminary round. Longhorns freshman Teahna Daniels was second-fastest at 11.53.
