Teryn's Hot Topics: Here comes the sun, Cardinals fans

ST. LOUIS -- As I write this, the sun is shining in St. Louis after a dreary start to the week. It seemed as though we could not escape the rain in St. Louis, both on and off the baseball diamond.

But on Thursday morning I found peace in the spring-like weather and a chance to rejuvenate myself when the sun finally broke through.

That is what I am hoping the Cardinals did this morning as well -- relaxed, reset and cleared their minds and memories.

The Cardinals have had some tough times of late and entering today's game they were perched at 20-20 for the season -- a record that certainly doesn't sit well with GM John Mozeliak or manager Mike Matheny. I think Wednesday night's rainout was a godsend, something this worn-out team desperately needed. And you'd better believe I can see some silver linings around the clouds that are finally starting to disappear.

The Cardinals announced Wednesday that Kolten Wong was returning to St. Louis (although he is now out due to a stomach illness). The club's second-best prospect rediscovered his swing in Memphis and looks to bring a bit of stability to the roster. (See, the rays already had begun to peek through the clouds before the rainout ensued.)

Jaime Garcia is scheduled to return to the mound Sunday after suffering a season-ending shoulder injury last year, fighting through inflammation in spring training and then getting hit by a pitch on his left elbow in Double-A Springfield. Yes, that's a lot of bad luck for the southpaw -- but I think things could start to turn around for him in St. Louis. He will be a welcome addition to the pitching staff. (Here comes the sun!)

Speaking of rehabbing pitchers, Jason Motte is doing well in the minors while coming back from Tommy John surgery. We could see him back in the show soon along with top prospect Oscar Taveras, who also is lighting it up down there. (It's getting brighter out.)

Perhaps the best news of all, after Thursday the Cubs and their bad luck will be out of town! (I think I need my sunglasses and a lounge chair by the pool.)

So get out your beach towel and let's cheer our boys of summer! (If you need a Cards towel, you can get one during a May Busch Stadium giveaway, highlighted in an adorable commercial featuring our very own FOX Sports Midwest Girl Katie.

By the way, Katie and I will be at Sunday's Jay-Craig Celebrity Bowl to help raise money for a great cause. Come out, give back and bowl with some of your favorite Cardinals players!

QUICK HITS

-- Kayla, Katie and I had a great time last week at the St. Louis Rams Draft Day Party, watching excitedly with our fellow fans as the Rams and commissioner Roger Goodell announced each of the team's first-round selections. I also had a blast watching over the next couple of days as the team strengthened its roster, selecting a total of 11 up-and-coming players in the 2014 draft.

Nate Latsch of FOXSportsMidwest.com gave the 2014 Rams draft class an A -- an evaluation that has many fans excited about football in St. Louis again.

So, a warm welcome to St. Louis to all the new Rams -- and a welcome back close to home for former Mizzou players E.J Gaines and Michael Sam!

-- I just had to share this story of a former janitor at the Edward Jones Dome who now is a St. Louis Ram. Seriously. You have to read it!

-- I do not happen to be a fan of “The Bachelor,” but I found this story on Juan Pablo's visit to Busch Stadium this week to be hilarious. For fans and non-fans of the reality TV show, I think you might find it entertaining.

Here's a fitting Throwback Thursday video. Listen in on this conversation between Jimmy Ballgame and the Wizard on being the best.

My shout-out this week goes to all the girls and those who participated in last Saturday's Girls on the Run St. Louis 5K Spring Run. The event was spectacular and I was so proud to run alongside all the girls fulfilling their goal!

Now we are looking forward to the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure as we team up again with the St. Louis Blues. Seeing all that pink in downtown St. Louis always takes my breath away. I hope you join us!
