ARLINGTON, Texas – A battered Texas Rangers pitching staff caught a break Sunday.
That's because right-hander Nick Tepesch, who left his Saturday start after taking a liner off his right wrist, expects to make his start Thursday in Minnesota.
"It feels all right now," Tepesch said. "It's a little sore. I feel like I should be all right. It felt pretty good other than being a little stiff."
Tepesch still had a little swelling on his arm but didn't think it would be an issue. He's scheduled to throw his bullpen Monday in Los Angeles.
Tepesch has a cut on his arm but it could have been worse as the ball hit off the bat of Jesus Montero ended up in right-center field.
"You've got to expect the worst," Texas manager Ron Washington said. "It's a baseball coming at I don't know how many miles per hour off that bat. It happened so fast. Usually the next day tells but he's doing well."
While Tepesch exited early, the Rangers did complete a 5-0 shutout. They are just the sixth team since 1998 to record a shutout when getting 1 2/3 innings or less from their starter.
