INCHEON, South Korea (AP) Asian Games organizers have confirmed a football player from Tajikistan tested positive for a banned stimulant in the first doping case at Incheon.
The Olympic Council of Asia on Wednesday said Khurshed Beknazarov failed a test on Sept. 14, five days before the opening ceremony. The soccer competition kicked off before the games were officially opened.
The OCA said Beknazarov has been disqualified from the games and the findings would be forwarded to football world governing body FIFA and to the World Anti-Doping Agency.
Organizers planned to conduct 1,920 doping tests during the Incheon Games, an increase on the 1,500 collected at the 2010 Games at Guangzhou, China.
