Swisher, Moss could return to games by mid-March
Brandon Moss and Nick Swisher could be ready to play in spring training games by mid-March as Indians trainer James Quinlan gave an update Thursday on players who have reported.
Moss, who had surgery on his right hip to repair a torn labrum in late October, is completing overhand-toss hitting while building up his sprint work. He is expected to begin position-specific running in 7-to-10 days and begin on-field hitting by early March.
Swisher is on a structured running and agility program as he is near the six-month mark since having surgery on both knees. Once his knees have been able to accommodate the increased volume and activity of spring training, he is expected to begin outfield-specific work and base-running in two weeks.
Jason Kipnis (left ring finger extensor repair in December) is unrestricted with defensive work and throwing but is working through a return to hitting progression. Kipnis is currently at the front-toss phase in the batting cages and is expected to resume on-field hitting within 7-10 days. He should be available to play in games shortly after the Cactus League begins.
Ryan Raburn (left knee surgery) and Giovanny Urshela (left knee PCL sprain) have completed their rehab and are expected to be ready when the Cactus League games begin on March 4 against the Reds.
Gavin Floyd, who the Indians signed during the offseason, is throwing bullpens as he builds up his right arm after having right elbow surgery last year. He is expected to be pitching in B games by the second week of March.
