'Superfly' Snuka due back in court for competency hearing
ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) Jimmy ''Superfly'' Snuka is due back in court for day three of a hearing to determine if he's competent to stand trial on charges he killed his girlfriend in 1983.
The 73-year-old pro wrestling star is charged with murder and involuntary manslaughter in the death of Nancy Argentino. He has pleaded not guilty. He's expected back in court Friday.
The defense contends Snuka is unfit to stand trial, partly because of the head trauma he suffered over a long career in the ring.
A psychologist testified for the defense that Snuka suffers from dementia and that his mental condition is deteriorating. A psychiatrist hired by prosecutors says Snuka's brain shows normal signs of aging. He suggested Snuka might be faking symptoms.
A Lehigh County judge will decide whether Snuka, of Waterford Township, New Jersey, can stand trial.
