FOX Sports San Diego (FSSD) announced today the return of the super slow-mo Phantom Cam to San Diego during the San Diego Padres vs. Detroit Tigers series starting tonight. Additional technologies have been introduced this season with the intent of elevating the viewers' experience during all FOX Sports regional MLB telecasts.

With the ability to record up to 5,000 frames per second, the Phantom Cam is able to show live game action in greater slow-motion detail. In comparison, a typical slow-motion camera records at about 380 frames per second. Due to the heightened rate, the Phantom Cam can slow down even the smallest elements of the game, focusing in with incredible clarity on visuals like the pronation of a pitchers arm, the splinter of a breaking bat or reverberation of it upon impact, even the exact sweet spot of a bat as it leads to a well hit ball. The Phantom Cam was first debuted by FOX during the 2012 NLCS and World Series and is now shared by FOX Regional Networks around the country.

While viewers can experience the Phantom Cam specifically during the Padres vs. Tigers series, the first of a few select stops in San Diego this year, the rest of these technological enhancements can be seen on FSSDâs Padres telecasts throughout the season.
