Suns waive big man Haddadi, keep Brown
Following the selection of center Alex Len with the fifth overall pick in Thursday's draft, the Suns on Saturday waived backup center Hamed Haddadi.
Haddadi, a fifth-year pro who was the first Iranian to play in the NBA, was acquired in February along with a second-round draft pick from the Raptors for Sebastian Telfair. The 28-year-old appeared in 17 games for the Suns, averaging 4.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 13.8 minutes per game.
The move saves the Suns $1.2 million in salary.
While Haddadi won't be back, shooting guard Shannon Brown apparently will. The Suns declined to release him Saturday, meaning his entire 2013-14 salary of $3.5 million is guaranteed. The team had until 36 hours after the completion of the draft to waive him and, in the process, cut their payment to him in half.
