Stealing a win: Ohio HS baseball semi ends with wild play at the plate
We've seen plenty of interesting ways to win a baseball game in walk-off fashion -- there's the traditional home run, base hit, walk or sac fly, the less traditional balk and maybe the most rare -- interference (in the World Series, no less).
An Ohio high school team added its own wild way to the list in one of the biggest games of its season. Tinora High School, in northwest Ohio, earned its spot in the Division IV state baseball championship by defeating Crestview High School with a steal of home plate.
Making the move even gutsier is the fact that there were two outs when Tinora's Logan Dickerson took off from third, the game tied at three in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Dickerson's reaction to the play at the plate registers as a classic.
"I was running down to home, then I saw the catcher with the ball, and I thought he was going to get me," Dickerson said. "He had it in his hands, then he bobbled it. Then, I said, 'Thanks' (when he dropped it)."
That's a kid who learned his manners.
