StaTuesday: Non-Peterson 100-yard rushing games since 2007
How much do the Minnesota Vikings need Adrian Peterson?
Since joining the team in 2007, Adrian Peterson has rushed for 100 or more yards in a game 49 times.
Considering he's played in 122 games during that span, that's not a bad ratio (40.2 percent).
With Peterson not in the lineup, 100-yard games have been few. In fact, you could count them on one hand.
Minnesota has played 150 games during Peterson's tenure. Thus, he's missed 28 games -- two in 2007, one in 2010, four in 2011, two in 2013, 15 in 2014 and four so far in 2016. In those 28 games, the Vikings have had just five 100-yard rushers (17.9 percent).
In 2014, when Peterson missed all but one game, Minnesota had just two 100-yard rushers.
One of those five times was by a quarterback, Joe Webb, in 2011, thanks in part to a 65-yard touchdown run.
The Vikings have had three 100-yard rushers in games Peterson played but in which he wasn't the one to top that mark.
-- Dec. 9, 2007 at San Francisco: Peterson had the worst game of his career, rushing for 3 yards on 14 carries (0.2 average) -- both the rushing yards and rush average are career lows. Chester Taylor had 101 yards on eight carries, 84 coming on a touchdown run in the second quarter in a 27-7 Minnesota win.
-- Dec. 24, 2011 at Washington: Peterson rushed 12 times for 38 yards but tore his ACL on the first play of the third quarter. Toby Gerhart took over and gained 109 yards on 11 carries in the 33-26 Vikings victory.
-- Sept. 7, 2014 at St. Louis: Peterson had a respectable game -- 75 yards on 21 carries -- but Minnesota's big play came on a 67-yard run by wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson, who finished with 102 yards on three carries.
This season, a Vikings running back has topped 50 yards in a game just three times: Matt Asiata had 55 yards twice (Houston, Philadelphia) with the season high being 85 yards by Jerick McKinnon against the New York Giants.
Peterson, who is on injured reserve, is eligible to be activated for Minnesota's game against Arizona on Nov. 20. Whether he will or not remains to be seen. Whether the Vikings will have a 100-yard rusher before Peterson returns . . . well, as we've seen, history doesn't bode well.
Here's all eight of the non-Peterson 100-yard rushing games since 2007:
