Stallwalkin' Dude wins Belmont's Diablo Stakes

NEW YORK (AP) Stallwalkin' Dude held off Clearly Now by a neck Sunday to win the $98,000 Diablo Stakes at Belmont Park.

It was the fourth straight win, and first stakes victory, for the 5-year-old gelding owned and trained by David Jacobson.

Stallwalkin' Dude set the pace and yielded briefly to Clearly Now in the stretch before battling back for his 11th win in 27 starts.

Angel Cruz was aboard for the six furlongs in 1:09.48.

Palace Malice, the 2013 Belmont Stakes winner, was third in his season debut.

Stallwalkin' Dude paid $11, $4.10 and $2.30.

Clearly Now returned $3.60 and $2.40. Palace Malice paid $2.10 to show as the 4-5 favorite.
