St. Louis Classic on Saturday: Skate and watch the Blues

ST. LOUIS -- Festive lights galore, fire pit roaring, cookies baking in the oven -- it's all wonderful, but the holidays aren't complete without a night of Blues hockey and ice skating in Forest Park.

It's hard to beat the camaraderie on a winter evening at Scottrade Center, but there's nothing like the unique event that is the annual St. Louis Classic. With Forest Park as the backdrop, everyone is welcome to take the ice this Saturday night and skate around Steinberg Rink while watching the Blues skate simultaneously against the Avalanche in Colorado.

With hot chocolate in hand, donning the famous Blues sweater, fans can get an up-close glimpse of a FOX Sports Midwest broadcast like never before. The FSMW set sits right next to the ice, where you can skate up and interact with the FSMW crew and hosts such as Hall of Famer Bernie Federko, former Blue Terry Yake, Jim Hayes and Scott Warmann.

And who knows what other Blues personalities you'll bump into? You might even get on TV as the FOX Sports Midwest cameras capture the Steinberg crowd throughout the broadcast.

Need to warm up? The Steinberg Rink clubhouse is the place to be as fans gather, grab some food, lace up their skates and watch the Blues on big-screen TVs.

FOX Sports Midwest Girls Kayla and Teryn have fun showing off one of the ice sculptures on the broadcast stage at the 2013 event.

Lest we forget this is a season of giving, an added element to this year's festivities will be the opportunity to donate to Toys for Tots. Stop by and see Katie and me at the toy drive booth, and if you're one of the first 50 people to bring an unwrapped toy after 7:30 p.m., you'll receive a puck signed by Federko.

The event, presented by Gateway Honda Dealers, is free for all to come and hang out with St. Louis Blues mascot Louie and enjoy the holiday spectacle. Skating ($7), skate rentals ($5), food, hot chocolate, beer and wine are sold by the rink. The broadcast begins at 8 p.m. with a one-hour edition of Blues Live, and the game broadcast begins at 9 p.m.

See you there! L-G-B!
