St Elmo Hero wins Comples Series, 23rd in row

St Elmo Hero stretched his winning streak to 23 and Tim Tetrick became the youngest driver to reach 6,000 career wins at the Meadowlands Racetrack on Saturday night.

St Elmo Hero won the $65,000 Complex Series final for pacers ages 5 and under, with Tetrick picking up win No. 6,000 in the process.

Heavily favored St Elmo Hero won by 1 1/4-lengths over Windsong Gorgeous in a stakes-record 1:49.1 in the snow.

Also, Alexie Mattosie won the $127,000 Presidential series final for older pacers and Meirs Hanover in the $62,600 Clyde Hirt series final for 4-year-old male pacers.

Alexie Mattosie ($10.60) used a first-over charge to overcome leader Vlos and then held off Bettor Sweet by a head in 1:49.2. River Shark was third.

Tetrick, who turned 29 in November, also was the youngest driver to 2,000, 3,000, 4,000 and 5,000 wins. Walter Case Jr. (32) held the record for youngest to 6,000 victories.
