Sri Lanka wins toss, bats 1st in series-opener vs Australia
PALLEKELE, Sri Lanka (AP) Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews won the toss Tuesday and elected to bat first in the series-opening test against Australia.
The Sri Lankans, under pressure despite hosting the three-test series, gave test debuts to batsman Dhananjaya de Silva and left-arm wrist-spinner Lakshan Sandakan.
Australia went into the first test with two spinners, selecting left-arm orthodox Stephen O'Keefe to join Nathan Lyon. Paceman Mitchell Starc returned from injury to rejoin the bowling attack.
