Sri Lanka reaches 227-8 in 1st ODI vs. Australia

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) Australian fast bowlers James Faulkner and Mitchell Starc shared seven wickets to hold Sri Lanka to a modest 227 for eight in 50 overs in the opening match of a five-match one-day international series on Sunday.

Dinesh Chandimal made an unbeaten 80 runs while Kusal Mendis made 67 for Sri Lanka after being asked to bat first by Australian captain Steve Smith.

Starc provided the breakthrough for Australia with Sri Lanka's total on three, bowling out opening batsman Kusal Perera (1). Tillakaratne Dilshan made 22 before being caught by Smith off seamer Moises Henriques.

Mendis and Chandimal then added 79 runs for the third wicket before Mendis was caught by Travis Head off Faulkner who finished with 4-38.
