HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) Sri Lanka made a strong start to the first test against Zimbabwe, motoring along to 317-4 by stumps on the first day on Saturday after a century by Kusal Perera.
Perera made 110 and opener Kaushal Silva 94 as Sri Lanka didn't appear to miss captain Angelo Mathews and vice captain Dinesh Chandimal. They didn't make the tour because of injury.
Zimbabwe, playing its 100th test, struggled on the opening day of the two-test series. Captain Graeme Cremer took 3-82 with his legspinners but the home team rarely contained the Sri Lankans on a good batting pitch at Harare Sports Club.

Perera hit 15 fours and two sixes for his 110 off 121 balls. His century came after a 123-run opening stand between Silva and Dimuth Karunaratne.
