Sri Lanka bats 1st as Zimbabwe plays 100th test
HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) Stand-in captain Rangana Herath won the toss and opted for his Sri Lanka team to bat first in the opening test against Zimbabwe on Saturday.
Herath takes charge of Sri Lanka with regular skipper Angelo Mathews and vice-captain Dinesh Chandimal not touring because of injuries.
Sri Lanka gave teenage fast bowler Lahiru Kumara and allrounder Asela Gunaratne their test debuts at Harare Sports Club.
Zimbabwe is playing its 100th test and the first under new coach and former captain Heath Streak. Zimbabwe has won just 11 of those 100 tests since 1992 and has never beaten Sri Lanka.
The home team selected fast bowler Carl Mumba for his debut in the first match of a two-test series.
