SAN DIEGO – FOX Sports San Diego’s latest specialty telecast, Baseball Language Night, airs tonight
during the San Diego Padres vs. Pittsburgh Pirates game. Inspired by the Baseball Dictionary written by Paul
Dickson, the telecast will give viewers a lesson in the unique language
developed by the game of baseball over the years.

Throughout the game, words and phrases will be defined in on-screen
graphics, represented in video examples and incorporated into the night’s
sponsored features. Padres players will weigh in with their favorite phrases
and Baseball Hall of Fame broadcaster Jerry Coleman will join Dick
Enberg
and Mark Sweeney in the broadcast booth to discuss the
evolution of baseball language throughout the years. Viewers will also get a
special opportunity outside of FOX Sports San Diego’s Social Media Tuesdays to
interact with the broadcast for a chance to win a Diamond Dictionary Hitting or Pitching poster designed by Jeremy Reiss.

"Baseball has its own colorful and distinct language that has given
us words and phrases like “frozen rope” for a line drive and “chin music” for
an inside pitch,” said Jason Lewis, FOX Sports San Diego Producer.  “With
over 10,000 words and phrases in the Baseball
Dictionary
, the language of the game truly is as rich as the characters that
have played it."

The Padres take on the Pirates beginning at 7:10 PM PST tonight. Viewers
can tune in early for special features pertaining to the theme which have also
been developed for Padres Live pregame
show starting at 6:30 PM PST.
