Southern Miss tops Sam Houston State 61-49

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) -- Dwayne Davis scored 27 points to lead Southern Mississippi past Sam Houston State 61-49 Monday night in the Progressive Legends Classic.
Davis was 5 for 6 from 3-point range for the Golden Eagles (3-0). Jonathan Mills had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Southern Miss, which led 34-28 at halftime. The Golden Eagles shot 50 percent and held the Bearkats to 27 percent shooting. Sam Houston State (1-3) made just 11 field goals though six were from behind the arc.
Jeremy McKay led SHSU with 10 points.
