ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) Southern Freedom and Procurement dead-heated at the finish line in the $59,000 Southern California Sports Broadcasters Purse on Thursday at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Martin Garcia, Southern Freedom led the way while Procurement and Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith were second, getting lapped by Southern Freedom turning for home. They both stopped the clock in 1:59.10 over the 1 1/4 miles on turf.

Southern Freedom paid $9, $8.60 and $9.40 at 8-1 odds. The victory, worth $23,600, increased his career earnings to $195,690, with six wins in 17 starts.

Procurement returned $9, $7.20 and $10.20 for his fifth win in 21 career starts. His earnings increased to $273,594.

Flamboyant was another nose back in third and paid $11.40 to show at 8-1 odds.
