David Blatt is in negotiations to become the next head coach of the Cavaliers, a source told FOX Sports Ohio late Thursday.

Blatt has been offered the job, according to the source, and the sides were trying to reach a deal. An announcement could come as early as Friday morning, the source said.

Blatt, 55, has been coaching Maccabi Tel Aviv since 2010. He has been overseas as a player or coach since 1981.

According to sources, the Cavs narrowed their decision to Blatt and Clippers assistant Tyronn Lue on Thursday. Blatt ultimately won the job and the sides began contract negotiations, sources said.

Despite the fact Blatt possess no NBA experience, the Cavs believe he has the experience and offensive system to lead them to great things. Still, the decision of picking him over Lue was said to be a very difficult one -- as the Cavs feel Lue will be a good head coach in the NBA. One source said Blatt's emergence was the only reason the team was not in contract negotiations with Lue on Thursday.

The Cavs received positive feedback from those within the NBA and basketball coaching communities on their decision to contact, and ultimately choose, the offensive-minded Blatt. If hired, he will be the 20th coach in Cavs history.
