Oklahoma has suspended running back Keith Ford indefinitely after "academic and team rules violations," coach Bob Stoops announced on Monday.

The junior has 526 career rushing yards and six touchdowns after starting three games and appearing in 15 more in his first two seasons.

The Cypress, Texas native missed five games last season with a fractured fibula he suffered in a win over Tennessee. Before the injury, he had scored five touchdowns and rushed for 194 yards in Oklahoma's first three games.

As of Monday morning, Ford was no longer listed on Oklahoma's online roster.

He is one of Oklahoma's six scholarship running backs, headlined by Samaje Perine, who led the Big 12 in rushing a year ago and broke the NCAA single-game rushing record with 427 yards against Kansas. Ford set a career high with 91 rushing yards on nine carries against Oklahoma State in the Sooners' 2014 regular season finale.
