Sooners QB Baker Mayfield compares himself to Johnny Manziel
NORMAN, Okla. - When Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield was in high school, he met Johnny Manziel.
Now Mayfield is being compared to him.
"I've always respected him as a player," Mayfield said of Manziel. "He did everything for his team. He has a lot of passion for the game and you have to respect that as a player.
"When the scrambling comes into play, a broken tackle here and there, it can look similar. I could see the resemblance."
Mayfield went to Lake Travis (Texas) High. Manziel is from Kerrville, Texas.
"That's a big body of work that Johnny has, so let's give Baker some more time," Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said of the comparison.
Mayfield has more than 1,000 yards passing through three games and has 10 touchdown passes and just two interceptions. Mayfield accounted for six touchdowns last week against Tulsa.
