As the deadline for Kyle Parker to sign with the Rockies grows closer (Aug. 16), the redshirt sophomore quarterback is starting to regain his form from a year ago on the practice fields at Clemson.
After a concluding his first scrimmage of preseason camp by completing 9-of-18 passes for 114 yards and a 14-yard touchdown on the ground, he had one of his days of camp Wednesday morning.
"He looks like Fran Tarkenton out there," Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said after practice. "He's got a new chin strap and I said 'that looks like Fran Tarkenton.' He asked me, 'Who's that?' I said, 'What about Joe Theismann?' He said, "the announcer?"
"I told him he needed to look those guys up. He had a great day. Him and No. 10, (Tajh Boyd) whatever they had for breakfast, we need to figure out what it was and make sure everybody gets it, because the both of them were incredible out there today. Just throwing darts out there- it was great to see."
Parker, who threw for 20 touchdowns and 2,526 yards in 2009, was the No. 26 overall selection in the MLB draft in June, has five days left to get a deal signed with the Rockies. If he's left unsigned, he'll return to the baseball diamond in Tigertown next spring and have the opportunity to be drafted again next summer.
Clemson finished its second day of two-a-days Wednesday and will practice two more times before Saturday's scrimmage inside of Death Valley.
