John Smoltz' run at a bid for the U.S. Open appears to be over- at least for this year.
After parring his final three holes, Smoltz finished 6-over-par at the Marietta Country Club, preventing him from advancing to the sectional round.
Smoltz was one of the 9,000 American golfers hoping to reach the U.S. Open via local tournaments and one of many celebrities vying for a spot.
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has also entered several times, including this year, but has never made it out of the local stage.
