Signee breaks news to Mizzou on Twitter with a #decommit
Twitter was buzzing over Mizzou's 2015 recruiting class on Wednesday, due in large part to five-star defensive tackle Terry Beckner Jr.'s decision to sign with the Tigers instead of Florida State, Auburn or Ohio State.
But before #DLineZou started trending on Twitter, the Tigers' day on social media got off to a rocky start when they were linked to another hashtag.
Martin, who's ranked as the nation's 12th-best receiver by ESPN, had verbally committed to Missouri in late January. While he may have been the first to use #decommit in this type of situation, Martin was by no means the first to use social media to #decommit from a program prior to National Signing Day. In fact, four-star tailback Mike Weber announced his decommitment from Michigan via Twitter midway through the fourth quarter of a Michigan-Maryland game last November.
Getting hit with a #decommit is bad, but losing a signee mid-game might be even worse.
