Showtime developing series about pro athletes and doping
Move over "Breaking Bad," and make way for ... "Breaking Ball?"
Showtime is developing a new series about the business of doping pro athletes, according to deadline.com, with the help of two journalists who have been at the center of the investigations into Major League Baseball's connection to the shady business.
The hourlong drama "Dope" will focus on the steroid biz and particularly "the South Florida doctor who popularized it."
Consulting on the project are Miami New Times managing editor Tim Elfrink and reporter Gus Garcia-Roberts. The Miami New Times' expose about the Biogenesis clinic in Coral Gables, Fla., led to the MLB suspensions of Alex Rodriguez, Ryan Braun and others. Garcia-Roberts reported on MLB's involvement in the case for New York Newsday.
Will "Dope" give us the next Walter White? Stay tuned.
