DENVER -- St. Louis starter Shelby Miller left the game in the third inning with back tightness Tuesday night against the Colorado Rockies.

Miller arched his back after delivering a pitch to Jorge De La Rosa, clearly in some discomfort. Cardinals manager Mike Matheny and the trainer instantly trotted out to check on the right-hander.

After a few warmup tosses from Miller, Matheny brought in Nick Greenwood to take over.

Miller went 2 2/3 innings, allowing three runs and six hits. He also walked five and struck out two.

The Cardinals put starters Michael Wacha and Jaime Garcia on the 15-day disabled list Sunday. Wacha has trouble with his right shoulder and Garcia has inflammation in his left shoulder.
