San Francisco -- It was fun listening to 680 AM KNBR on my way into San Francisco today. I wanted to hear what they had to say about the Tigers before Game 1 of the World Series.
Not surprisingly, they believe their Giants are at an advantage when it comes to the Tigers in terms of the way they hit. Unlike the homer-happy Yankees, the Giants are not lovers of the long ball. They like to put the ball in play.
The hosts said that should play into the Giants' hands as the Tigers are uh, not well, known for their defense. Specifically, they mentioned hitting the ball to Delmon Young in left field and trying for bunt base hits to first and third.
Well, then.
They also were putting this spin on it: the Tigers have more pressure in Game 1 because Justin Verlander is pitching and if they lose a Verlander game, then they're demoralized or something.
It's an interesting take, not necessarily one I agree with though.
I'm more interested in seeing how quickly the Tigers are able to shake off the rust after not having played since last Thursday.
