Seniors gather for All Star Classic on Sunday
Some of the top seniors from across Southern California will converge at Home Depot Center on Sunday for the PrepStar All Star Classic presented by Plays and Grades Inc. in conjunction with B2G Sports.
There will be three games. The first featuring 8th graders from L.A. County North taking on 8th graders of L.A. County South at noon. The 3pm game will put the L.A. City Section against the San Diego Section. Concluding the All-Star event at 6pm is the CIF Southern Section North against the CIF Southern Section South. It's something high school football fans have waited a long time for.
"From what I gathered, there was a lot of people that were waiting for us to do an all-star game and it's at the Home Depot Center and people want to see matchups like L.A. City versus San Diego and people want to see Southern Section North and Southern Section South," said B2G co-founder Ron Allen. "It's basically the best in Southern California going at it."
Bragging rights will certainly be on the line. Players from all sides are taking this seriously.
"The pride of the different counties and the different regions is at an all-time high. I think it's great because that's the type of competitive fire you want," said Allen. "The L.A. City Section –this is about as organized and collected that I've seen them ever but they're all in it for a cause to prove that L.A.'s on top. At the end of the day, San Diego Section is about the same thing. They have a lot of pride coming out of that city, so it's a good look."
San Pedro quarterback Kenny Potter, Venice wide receiver Gabriel Marks (Washington State commit), and Carson wide receiver Darreus Rogers are amongst the players that will compete for the L.A. City Section and head coach Shane Cox of Fairfax.
St. Augustine head coach Richard Sanchez will lead the San Diego Section.
The main event will be the CIF Southern Section North taking on the CIF Southern Section South at 6pm.
"I'm really excited about that. It's fun for our staff to coach. We have such great young men. We knew they'd be really talented," said CIF Southern Section South head coach Jim Kunau. "I think that's one thing that sets it apart a little bit is just how good the players are. I think that it will be a fun, wide open, exciting game."
Some of the talent on the South include Long Beach Poly wide receiver Richard Smith (Arizona State commit), Serra linebacker Thomas Brown (Nebraska commit), and Upland DT/FB Christian Powell (UCLA commit).
Chaminade quarterback Logan Scott (Columbia commit), Crespi offensive lineman Jordan Simmons (USC commit), and Westlake defensive lineman Justin Solis (Colorado commit) are amongst the players that will represent the CIF Southern Section North. The North will be led by Oaks Christian head coach Bill Redell.
