Seixas and Bednarczuk win first beach volleyball world title

THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) Barbara Seixas and Agatha Bednarczuk won their first beach volleyball world championship by beating fellow Brazilian pair Taiana Lima and Fernanda Alves 21-18, 22-20 on Saturday.

Earlier, Juliana Felisberta da Silva and Maria Antonelli claimed third place to make it an all-Brazil podium a year before Rio de Janeiro hosts the Olympics.

Playing in their first world championship final, Seixas and Bednarczuk went behind by three points in the first set before drawing level at 15-15, and extending the lead to take the set in 20 minutes.

The second set was even closer, with Seixas finally sealing the win on their third match point with a diagonal smash to snap a 14-match winning streak for Lima and Alves.
