Scoring change hits Kluber
Corey Kluber saw his ERA go up slightly without throwing a pitch.
The Indians right-hander had three earned runs added to him after Major League Baseball made a scoring change related to the third inning of Kluber's Sept. 1 start against Detroit. With two outs and the bases empty, Miguel Cabrera hit a fly ball that originally was ruled as an error on Mike Aviles. That has now been changed back to a single and makes all three runs scored in the inning earned.
Originally it was ruled as a single, but the official scorer changed it to an error the following day, which the Tigers appealed. Kluber's ERA was 2.45 but now goes up to 2.58 headed into tonight's start against Houston. Kluber was tied with Oakland's John Lester for third before the scoring change but is now fourth.
Kluber goes into tonight's game with a 15-9 record after winning his past two starts. He has collected a career-high 230 strikeouts across 31 starts this season, which is third in the American League, trailing only David Price (250) and Max Scherzer (237). He ranks among the top 10 in the other categories: wins (15, tied for fifth), innings (212 2/3, fourth), WHIP (1.10, sixth) strikeouts per nine innings (9.73, fourth), strikeout:walk ratio (5.00, sixth) and pitches per inning (14.9, fifth).
