Scherzer buys ad to thank Ilitch, Tigers, Detroit fans
DETROIT -- Max Scherzer may be no longer be with the Detroit Tigers but he hasn't forgotten them or the fans.
Scherzer and his wife, Erica, purchased an advertisement on the home page of both the Detroit News and Detroit Free Press.
"Thank you to Mr. Ilitch and the Tigers organization, teammates and most of all the Detroit fans. We accomplished some amazing things and had many unbelievable moments that we'll never forget.
"It was a privilege and an honor to don the Old English D.
"Thank you, Max and Erica."
During Saturday's TigerFest, Tigers president and general manager Dave Dombrowski had high praise for Scherzer.

"We all know and thank Max for everything he did, he pitched great for us," Dombrowski said. "Tremendous individual, did a lot for our franchise. Unfortunately, sometimes you make some business decisions.
"But again, Max Scherzer did a wonderful job for us and we wish him nothing but the best."
Scherzer, 30, signed a seven-year, $210 million contract with the Washington Nationals this past week.
Scherzer spent the last five seasons with the Tigers, winning the AL Cy Young award in 2013 when he went 21-3 with a 2.90 ERA and 0.970 WHIP.
