Saints RB Mark Ingram eager to play in home state vs. Lions

Saints running back Mark Ingram is intent on playing in his home state Sunday when they take on the Lions in Detroit.

Ingram was born in New Jersey, but grew up in Flint, Mich., where he played for Southwestern Academy.

Wednesday, Ingram practiced with the Saints and says he's taking handoffs, catching passes and is ready for action versus the Lions.

The Bama product may wear a brace on his hand, but is confident his surgically repaired thumb bone is fully healed. Ingram fractured his thumb in Week 2.

This week Ingram tweeted about God delivering and looking forward to this upcoming Sunday.

Head coach Sean Payton declined to give away details on how much and where he'll use Ingram in Sunday's game plan.

"He's doing well, and we'll see how we handle that position Sunday," Payton said. "Obviously we value depth at that position. We'll look at his reps and look at the playing going into the game ahead of time."

Ingram just recently returned from Michigan. Last week, during the Saints bye week, he returned to Flint to hand out uniforms to area schools.
