Ryan Lochte does not know what Yom Kippur is

Ryan Lochte just got his first credit card, wants to open a store that sells only black clothing and he doesn't know much about his Jewish holidays, he reveals in a new profile in New York Magazine.

Lochte is coming off a successful summer in the pool but received backlash after he “over-exaggerated” claims that he and fellow U.S. Olympic swimmers were robbed at gunpoint in Rio de Janeiro.

He remains in contention for the win on the latest season of Dancing with the Stars.

He was recently interviewed for the New York Magazine story during a trip to a mall. View an exchange between Lochte's publicist and him below:

Perhaps for obvious reasons, at the last minute, Lochte’s publicist decides to come along. “Work is slow,” she says. “It’s Yom Kippur.”

“What’s that?” Lochte asks curiously.

“It’s the Jewish Day of Atonement.”

“Wasn’t it their Thanksgiving two days ago?”

“That was Canadian Thanksgiving.”

“Oh,” says Lochte, shifting his hands in his pocket and pulling out his phone, which, as it turns out, has been butt-dialing people.

If only there was video of this exchange and it could be added into the wonderful reel of Lochte's best quotes and moments.

Of course, Billy Bush in that video.
