FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – On Tuesday, Georgia State University announced it has hired Jeff Jagodzinski as its offensive coordinator, meaning that he will work football games in the Georgia Dome, just like his former quarterback, Atlanta Falcons' signal caller Matt Ryan.
Jagodzinski served as Boston College's head coach in 2007, which was Ryan's senior year. The Eagles went 11-3 that season and were ranked as high as No. 2 in the country.
On Wednesday, in his weekly meeting with the media, Ryan reacted to the news.
"Yeah, I heard he got hired down at Georgia State," Ryan said. "I'm excited for him. Obviously, I had a lot of fun with him my last year at Boston College. I think he'll do a good job. Obviously, he has a wealth of knowledge on the offensive side of the ball, so I think he'll do a good job."
Jagodzinski also served as the Falcons tight ends coach in 2004, a season in which they went to the NFC Championship Game, and as the team's offensive line coach in 2005. In 2006, he was the offensive coordinator of the Green Bay Packers before taking over at Boston College.
"What an opportunity to be able to hire someone with the experience and knowledge that Jeff Jagodzinski brings," new Georgia State coach Trent Miles said in a statement. "He's a great offensive mind, and he's been a successful head coach at the highest level of college football.
"He will teach concepts and skills that will only make our offense better. How appealing it is for young men to know they can be coached by the man who coached Matt Ryan."
