Royals tweak roster in preparation for 40-man deadline

Published Dec. 16, 2016 4:12 p.m. ET

The offseason reserve list deadline hits at 7 p.m. Friday, and the Kansas City Royals were busy making moves to set the club’s 40-man roster in time.

Rather than accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Omaha, left-handed reliever Tim Collins chose to become a free agent. In addition, the club selected the contracts of pitchers Andrew Edwards and Jake Junis from Omaha and catcher Cam Gallagher and first baseman Samir Duenez from Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Royals designated catcher Tony Cruz for assignment.
