Royals are asking for unconditional release waivers on Omar Infante

The Kansas City Royals have requested unconditional release waivers on infielder Omar Infante after designating him for assignment on June 15.

Infante, 34, joined the Royals in 2014 on a pricey, four-year deal worth $30.25 million. Before being designated for assignment, his batting average stood at .239 over 39 games this year.

Should he go unclaimed, he would become an unrestricted free agent on June 23 and could sign with any club.
